How this calculator works

Estimate how many months it could take to reach a savings target.. Write down what the money is for, how much is needed and when it is needed. If the cost is uncertain, create a range and choose a working target. Separate the main goal from related costs such as shipping, setup or maintenance.

Important assumptions

The gap is the target minus existing savings, with zero as the minimum. Keep rent, bills and emergency money separate if using it for the goal would leave essentials uncovered. A simple calculator does not know your obligations.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Mixing units or time periods.
  • Counting the same fee or tax twice.
  • Treating an estimate as a live quote or guarantee.
  • Ignoring maintenance, waste, exceptions or other costs outside the inputs.
